Blackberry Playbook Price And Review

There is more than a little interest in the Blackberry Playbook at the moment and at the time of writing this article… the price. So what is all the fuss about and is this tablet the cure for you?

Why Buy a Tablet in Any Case?

What most busy people want to do these days is browse the web, read forums, check up on whatever their personal hobbies or interests might be, see what is happening in the world via news websites and generally carry around their own personal techno library. A laptop is sometimes a bit cumbersome for just these purposes and a tablet is ideal. You could get a netbook but it’s just another version of the laptop so carries no added value to the user. Of course you also have the firing up time of a Laptop and the operating system; this can take longer than reading an article so it’s just wasted time. So… if this sounds like you, then you need a tablet.

This is the Blackberry Playbook price you should expect to pay:

8GB: $399 (£299)

16GB: $499 (£350)

32GB: $599 (£430)

There is a bit of confusion over what market the Playbook is aimed at. The general feeling is that it is, in all probability going to appeal to the business market as do the Blackberry phones. As long as the price is comparable to the iPad the corporate world won’t mind. However, I do think (and this is only my opinion) that the Blackberry Playbook is going to struggle against the iPad in the domestic market unless the techies release lots of Apps very rapidly. I believe that RIM will push the Playbook to the business world first and boost profits with domestic sales.
The success or failure of Playbook will be decided by the marketing strategy as most things these days are. There aren’t any models with built-in WWAN connection at the moment and this will upset initial sales. You will have to rely on WiFi or mobile connection. RIM is addressing this issue at the moment.

Why Buy A Blackberry Playbook?

Well… it is the first tablet to have a dual core processor and uses it to its fullest. Similar to windows, the Playbook has a real-time operating system in QNX. Because of these two points it is best positioned for the future and the multi-tasking needs of the consumer. It supports JavaScript, Adobe Air and Flash Mobile, Open GL standards, plus the new Blackberry Webworks and HTML 5 web apps platform. With its 1024 x 600 resolution touch screen which supports 1080p HD video and two cameras (1 x front and 1 x back) it will appeal to the multi-media consumer. The 3G Blackberry Playbook is in development already and 4G models planned for 2012.

I suppose if you are looking for a business tablet or powerful multi-media tablet and you are a big Blackberry fan I guess the Blackberry Playbook price isn't really going to matter. It's ambitious, interesting and exciting so we will watch its development with interest.
